Replacing the 488RC2 midi ball, the Manfrotto 498RC2 Mini Ball Head is the 498 Midi Ball Head equipped with an RC2 (200PL-14) quick release camera plate system. The 200PL-14 quick release plate features a secondary safety catch and a 1/4-20" male thread camera mount. Head to tripod attachment is 3/8" female. With its solid aluminum construction, this head is the ideal support for all traditional or digital small or medium format cameras. It has a new friction control knob plus separate fast action smart ratchet locking knobs for 360-degree pan and the plus/minus 90-degree tilt movements. You can position your camera anywhere in a 180-degree sphere with confidence and ease.

RC2 Quick Release Camera Plate System With Secondary Security Lock

The 498RC2 is equipped with a 200PL-14 quick release camera plate system. The compact, rectangular 200PL quick release plate system fits neatly under small-bodied still cameras up to SLR (even with tele lenses) or small medium format, or under small video cameras or spotting scopes. Its rubber pad gives a good grip without damaging the camera, and its angled sides ensure that it also fits perfectly and tightly into a wide range of Manfrotto heads. The 200PL-14 features a secondary security lock so you can't accidentally release the plate (and camera) without meaning to. The lock stops the quick release lever from opening fully.

Double Groove For Plus 90-Degree/Minus 90-Degree Tilt

The double 90-degree groove (one on each side of the head) means switching from landscape to portrait is convenient however you're set up.

Smart Ratchet Locking Knobs For 360-Degree Pan and Plus/Minus 90-Degree Tilt

A smart ratcheting locking lever allows the user to place it in a comfortable position in order to use it in the most convenient way. Just pull it outwards, put it in the best working position, and then release it. This makes working with the head easier and quicker. The locking lever securely locks the head both in the +90 degrees and -90 degrees ball positions and in the 360 degrees pan movements.
