The compact and powerful Metz 44AF-4iN is a special version of the company's 44AF series flash that's been specifically designed for Nikon D-series digital SLRs. The 44AF-4iN provides Nikon D-TTL mode, 3D multi-sensor fill-in flash in D-TTL mode, TTL flash exposure correction, i-TTL and i-TTL BL flash control (it is not suitable for cameras made by other manufacturers). Its large bounce/tilt flash head includes a built-in Auto Zoom feature that automatically adjusts with lenses in the 24-105mm range, while producing a Guide Number of 144 (feet) at ISO 100 at maximum zoom setting and a Guide Number of 112 (feet) at ISO 100 at 50mm.
Metz mecablitz 44 AF-4iN Flash Key Features
- Dedicated Nikon Flash Functions
- The compact and powerful Metz 44AF-4iN has been specifically designed for Nikon cameras, in particular their D-series digital SLRs. The supported flash functions depend on the specific Nikon camera model used. The following dedicated flash functions are supported by the flash unit:
- Flash-ready indication in camera's viewfinder
- Correct exposure indication in camera's viewfinder or display panel
- Underexposure warning on flash unit's display panel
- Automatic flash sync speed control
- TTL flash control (standard TTL without measuring preflash)
- Automatic fill-in flash control
- Matrix-controlled TTL fill-in flash mode
- 3D multi-sensor fill-in flash mode
- D-TTL and D-TTL 3D flash mode
- i-TTL and i-TTL-BL flash mode
- Manual TTL flash exposure correction
- 1st or 2nd curtain synchronization (REAR)
- Automatic motor zoom control
- Automatic AF measuring beam control
- Maximum flash range indication
- Programmed auto flash mode
- Preflash for red-eye reduction
- Triggering control / Auto Flash
- Wake-up function for the flash unit
- Auto Off
- To save battery power and prevent inadvertent battery discharge, the mecablitz is factory-set to automatically switch to standby mode (Auto-OFF), while the flash-ready light and the indications on the LC display are extinguished, approx. 3 minutes after:
- switch-on
- triggering a flash
- touching the shutter release (only with SCA 3002 system adapters)
- switching off the camera's exposure metering system (only with SCA 3002 system adapters)
After automatic switch-off the last-used settings are retained and instantly available when the flash unit is switched on again. The flash unit is reactivated merely by depressing the Mode or Zoom keys or by touching the camera's shutter release. The Auto-OFF function can be deactivated whenever required.
- LCD Display
- The illuminated LCD panel is large and easy-to-read and only displays the pertinent mode information. The 44AF-4iN is extremely user-friendly with only two function keys for straightforward menu control.
- Automatic Flash Mode
- A photo-sensor measures the light reflected by the subject and ends the light output as soon as the subject has been correctly lit.
- Manual Flash Mode
- Full light output and partial light output available.
- Automatic Zoom Reflector
- The integrated zoom reflector guarantees optimal light output within 28-105mm focal length. The focal length can even be reduced down to 20mm with an optional wide-angle diffuser. If the 44 AF-4iN is used with a camera that transmits lens focal length data to the flash unit, the zoom reflector position of the mecablitz is automatically adjusted to the focal length of the lens in use. The LCD display then indicates Auto Zoom and the zoom reflector setting (mm). The zoom position can also be set manually.
- Pivoting Reflector For Indirect Flash Lighting
- The zoom reflector can be swivelled upwards into four locking positions for bounce flashes: -7°, 60°, 75° and 90°.
- Correct Exposure Indication
- In auto flash mode the "o.k." correct exposure confirmation briefly lights up on the 44 AF-4iN when the picture was correctly exposed.
- Cobra Design
- The mecablitz 44 AF-4iN utilizes Metz' modernistic upright Cobra design, which also reduces red eye effect.
