The compact and powerful Metz 44AF-4M is a special version of the company's 44AF series flash that's been specifically designed for Konica/Minolta digital cameras. The 44AF-4M provides Minolta TTL control (it is not suitable for cameras made by other manufacturers). The Metz 44AF-4M Digital represents the current state-of-the-art in flash technology. New internal precision metering methods ensure perfect flash exposures with Konica/Minolta's ADI (Advanced Distance Integration) system for its Dimage series cameras. Its large bounce/tilt flash head includes a built-in Auto Zoom feature that automatically adjusts with lenses in the 24-105mm range, while producing a Guide Number of 144 (feet) at ISO 100 at maximum zoom setting and a Guide Number of 112 (feet) at ISO 100 at 50mm.
Metz mecablitz 44 AF-4M Flash Key Features
- Dedicated Konica/Minolta Flash Functions Including TTL Flash Control and ADI (Advanced Distance Integration)
- The compact and powerful Metz 44AF-4M has been specifically designed for analog Minolta Dynax and Maxxum cameras and digital Dimage cameras. The supported flash functions depend on the specific Konica/Minolta camera model used. The following dedicated flash functions are supported by the flash unit:
- Flash-ready indication in camera viewfinder
- Correct exposure confirmation in camera viewfinder
- Automatic flash sync speed control
- TTL flash control
- TTL fill-in flash control
- ADI flash control
- Multi-zone flash metering (preflash metering)
- Manual TTL flash exposure correction*
- Second curtain synchronization*
- Automatic motor zoom reflector control
- AF measuring beam control
- Maximum flash range indication
- Programmed auto flash mode
- Triggering control
- Wake-up function
- Auto Off
- To save battery power and prevent inadvertent battery discharge, the mecablitz is factory-set to automatically switch to standby mode (Auto-OFF), while the flash-ready light and the indications on the LC display are extinguished, approx. 3 minutes after:
- switch-on
- triggering a flash
- touching the shutter release (only with SCA 3002 system adapters)
- switching off the camera's exposure metering system (only with SCA 3002 system adapters)
After automatic switch-off the last-used settings are retained and instantly available when the flash unit is switched on again. The flash unit is reactivated merely by depressing the Mode or Zoom keys or by touching the camera's shutter release. The Auto-OFF function can be deactivated whenever required.
- LCD Display
- The illuminated LCD panel is large and easy-to-read and only displays the pertinent mode information. The 44AF-4M is extremely user-friendly with only two function keys for straightforward menu control.
- Automatic Flash Mode
- A photo-sensor measures the light reflected by the subject and ends the light output as soon as the subject has been correctly lit.
- Manual Flash Mode
- Full light output and partial light output available.
- Automatic Zoom Reflector
- The integrated zoom reflector guarantees optimal light output within 28-105mm focal length. The focal length can even be reduced down to 24mm with an optional wide-angle diffuser. If the 44 AF-4M is used with a camera that transmits lens focal length data to the flash unit, the zoom reflector position of the mecablitz is automatically adjusted to the focal length of the lens in use. The LCD display then indicates Auto Zoom and the zoom reflector setting (mm). The zoom position can also be set manually.
- Pivoting Reflector For Indirect Flash Lighting
- The zoom reflector can be swivelled upwards into four locking positions for bounce flashes: -7°, 60°, 75° and 90°.
- Correct Exposure Indication
- In auto flash mode the "o.k." correct exposure confirmation briefly lights up on the 44 AF-4M when the picture was correctly exposed.
- Cobra Design
- The mecablitz 44 AF-4M utilizes Metz' modernistic upright Cobra design, which also reduces red eye effect.
