The Metz mecablitz 54 AF-1M digital was created specifically for Konica Minolta digital cameras. It's hard to imagine how much power is packed into this compact flash unit of the Metz mecablitz 54 series. The Metz mecablitz 54 AF-1 flash unit was specifically developed for the current range of digital and analog cameras from leading manufacturers.
The Metz mecablitz 54 AF-1M digital represents the current state of the art in flash technology. New internal precision metering methods ensure perfect flash exposures from ADI flash exposure metering for Konica Minolta Dîmage. The 54 AF-1M offers simple, user-friendly operation with only two buttons and a single thumb wheel control needed for the logically-arranged menu system. But the Metz mecablitz 54 AF-1M digital also stands for more sophisticated flash work with short recycling times, modelling light, three partial light output levels and second curtain synchronization -- indispensable for the natural rendering of wipe effects. Furthermore, depending on the camera model, TTL exposure correction covers up to three apertures, both in the plus and minus ranges (in one-third increments).
Metz mecablitz 54 AF-1M Flash Key Features
- Dedicated Konica/Minolta Flash Functions Including TTL Flash Control and ADI (Advanced Distance Integration)
- The compact and powerful Metz 54AF-1M has been specifically designed for analog Minolta Dynax and Maxxum cameras and digital Dimage cameras. The supported flash functions depend on the specific Konica/Minolta camera model used. The following dedicated flash functions are supported by the flash unit:
- Flash readiness indication in the camera’s viewfinder or display panel
- Automatic flash sync speed control
- TTL flash control**
- Multi-zone flash exposure (preflash metering) for Dimage digital cameras*
- ADI flash control for Dimage digital cameras*
- Automatic fill-in flash in daylight
- Manual flash exposure correction*
- 1st or 2nd curtain synchronization (REAR)*
- Motor-zoom control
- AF measuring beam control
- Maximum flash range indication
- Program flash mode / AUTO FLASH*
- Wake-up function
- Guide Number 177 (ft) / 54 (m)
- Guide Number 177 (ft) / Guide Number 54 (m) at ISO 100 at 21°C and 105mm focal length.
- Automatic 24-105mm Zoom Reflector
- Automatic motor zoom reflector with 7 lock-in positions: 24/28/35/50/70/85/105mm. The integrated zoom reflector guarantees optimal light output within 24-105mm focal length. The focal length can even be reduced down to 20mm with the integrated wide-angle diffuser. If the 54 AF-1M is used with a camera that transmits lens focal length data to the flash unit, the zoom reflector position of the mecablitz is automatically adjusted to the focal length of the lens in use. The LCD display then indicates Auto Zoom and the zoom reflector setting (mm). The zoom position can also be set manually.
- Pivoting Reflector For Indirect Flash Lighting
- The zoom reflector can be swivelled upwards into four locking positions for bounce flashes: -7°, 60°, 75° and 90°.
- Automatic Flash Mode
- A photo-sensor measures the light reflected by the subject and ends the light output as soon as the subject has been correctly lit.
- Manual Flash Mode
- Full light output and 3 partial light output levels available.
- Illuminated LCD Display
- Flash mode, maximum flash range, aperture and the zoom reflector position are all indicated by the LCD display of the flash unit.
- Auto Off
- To save battery power and prevent inadvertent battery discharge, the mecablitz is factory-set to automatically switch to standby mode (Auto-OFF), while the flash-ready light and the indications on the LC display are extinguished, approx. 3 minutes after:
- switch-on
- triggering a flash
- touching the shutter release (only with SCA 3002 system adapters)
- switching off the camera's exposure metering system (only with SCA 3002 system adapters)
After automatic switch-off the last-used settings are retained and instantly available when the flash unit is switched on again. The flash unit is reactivated merely by depressing the Mode or Zoom keys or by touching the camera's shutter release. The Auto-OFF function can be deactivated whenever required.
- Flash Readiness Indication
- Correct Exposure Indication
- In auto flash mode the "o.k." correct exposure confirmation briefly lights up on the 54 AF-1M when the picture was correctly exposed.
- Modelling Light
- The modelling light is a sequence of stroboscopic flashes at high frequency during approximately 2 seconds which give the impression of permanent light. Modelling light enables the user to assess light distribution and shadow formation before taking pictures.
- Cobra Design
- The mecablitz 54 AF-1M utilizes Metz' modernistic upright Cobra design, which also reduces red eye effect.
