Genuine Canon Lens With 3x Optical Zoom, 12x Combined Zoom
Despite a body thickness of less than an inch, the PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH camera accommodates a retractable 3x optical zoom with an equivalent 35mm focal length of 38-114mm. This sharp and fast 3X optical zoom lens, opening up to f/2.8 at wide-angle settings and f/4.9 at telephoto settings, is ideally suitable for a wide range of photographic applications from landscapes and snapshots to portraits and macro at a working distance of under two inches from the subject.
Optical Image Stabilizer
Canon's sophisticated Optical Image Stabilizer technology uses miniature gyroscopic sensors to detect motion and generate a corrective signal. An image stabilizing lens group along the optical axis is shifted in response to the detected motion, providing effective cancellation of unwanted lens movement and vibration. The benefits are obvious and enormous: in still photography, the camera can now be handheld at slower shutter speeds without resulting in blurred images. Handheld video footage is smoother -- free of the unsteadiness that can make viewing home movies tiresome.

The PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH's Lens-Shift type optical image stabilization system is based on advancements made in the development of Canon's EF lenses and video lenses. Unlike electronic or digital image stabilization systems that typically degrade image quality, the PowerShot SD1100 IS digital camera's lens shift-type preserves maximum optical performance.

High-Resolution 2.5" PureColor LCD II Monitor
Despite its diminutive dimensions, the SD1100 IS Digital ELPH features a large 2.5-inch wide viewing angle type LCD screen. The bright 230,000 pixel LCD screen features Canon's new PureColor LCD II. A color filter in the durable, scratch-resistant LCD screen expands the color range for a sharp and vivid display. Canon's second-generation PureColor LCD II offers spectacular color, resolution and contrast, all visible even at an angle. The screen makes it easy to gather friends and family around to see your images.
Exclusive Canon UA Lens
The UA Lens (Ultra High Refractive Index Aspherical Lens) is a Canon exclusive: a glass-molded Aspherical lens with an ultra high refractive index that delivers bright, clear shots. This special glass allows a compactness unusual in a wide-angle lens, contributing to the SD1100 IS's impressively slim profile.

Canon's heritage as an imaging company dates back over 70 years to the company's founding in 1934. Since then, Canon has worked hard to perfect the process of creating extremely high-quality optics for its line of imaging products and is now the world's largest manufacturer of cameras and lenses. Canon is a global leader in optical design, with many advanced and original technologies that allow Canon users to achieve the sharpest images possible.

8 Megapixels
The PowerShot SD1100 IS features a 1/2.5-inch CCD image sensor with 8-megapixel resolution. The SD1100 IS Digital ELPH captures 3264 x 2448 pixel images with exceptional detail and color fidelity.
Canon DIGIC III Image Processor
DIGIC III Image Processor
The brain behind this beauty is DIGIC III, the newest iteration of Canon's ultra-efficient (and proprietary) image processor. Canon's exclusive DIGIC III Image Processor builds on the technological superiority of DIGIC and DIGIC II, taking image quality, performance and speed to new levels. It is the DIGIC III chip that accounts for the PowerShot SD1100 IS camera's higher performance levels including faster start up, autofocus and shutter response times; improved maximum processing speed; and of course, enhanced image quality and more efficient power consumption; resulting in extended battery life under typical shooting conditions.

Canon developed the proprietary DIGIC (Digital Imaging Integrated Circuit) Image Processor specifically for use with its line of digital cameras. The technology combines the jobs of image processing and camera function control into one chip. Because it was specifically designed for use in digital cameras, it is also capable of handling JPEG compression/expansion; memory card control; LCD/Video control and processing; gain control (control of CCD signal amplification); Auto Exposure; Auto Focus; Auto White Balance control and most other functions of the camera. The result is a product that offers faster and more powerful auto focus than ever before, faster image processing, better image quality and longer battery life.

Advanced Face Detection AF/AE/FE Technology and Red-Eye Correction
With Canon's Face Detection AF/AE/FE function, the camera can detect, lock on, and track multiple human faces in a scene. The face detection algorithm automatically prioritizes and selects faces (based on Canon's Intelligent Scene Analysis/iSAPS technology). It will then optimize the focus, exposure and flash to help ensure the best possible results for even easier picture taking moments. The result is flattering portraits and group shots where all of the subjects are in clearer focus and accurately exposed. In addition to focus and exposure control, the SD1100 IS' Face Detection feature captures truer, more accurately lit skin tones (and hence more beautifully rendered pictures) thanks to Canon's improved face detection white balance.

The PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH features the latest and most advanced generation of Canon's Genuine Face Detection technology, including the ability to use the function for movies as well as still images, the ability to detect faces that are further away or not aimed directly at the camera, and better control of flash exposure. Working with the camera's Face Detection technology, Canon's Red-eye Correction feature helps detect and corrects, during playback mode, that bothersome by-product of flash photography. Images can be corrected manually while viewing photos on the LCD screen to help vanquish red-eye, once and for all. Because most images will no longer require laborious post-processing with a computer, the in-camera Red-eye Correction feature is ideal for direct printing. Advanced Face Detection ensures that up to nine forward-looking faces in the frame are in focus and properly exposed, with or without flash.

Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital Camera
Face Selection and Motion Detection Technology
While the face detection algorithm automatically prioritizes up to nine human faces in a scene, it can also be instructed via the Face Select and Track function to lock on to a single face in the crowd, ensuring that the chosen countenance is finely focused, no matter where it appears in the frame. Additionally, a Motion Detection function linked to the camera's High ISO Auto mode improves image clarity by raising ISO speeds (and shutter speeds) for fast-moving subjects or lowering ISO speeds to reduce noise when the subject is stationary. These automatic advances provide even more ways for the PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH to optimize picture quality with seamless ease.
ISO 1600 Sensitivity and Auto ISO Shift
Thanks to the DIGIC III chip's more aggressive noise reduction, the SD1100 IS is able to shoot at ISO equivalent speed ratings from 80 to as high as 1600. This increased sensitivity at the top-end allows users to select faster shutter speeds, adding additional stability and reducing the danger of camera shake and subject blur during hand held, low-light photography. What's more, the SD1100 IS digital camera offers users the option of Canon's new Auto ISO Shift feature which, at the touch of a button, can accurately increase the ISO up to 800, further offsetting camera shake due to low-light or unsteady shooting conditions.
Canon iSAPS Technology
Over the past 68 years, Canon has accumulated a vast amount of photographic data and know-how and used it to create some of the most innovative camera products in the marketplace. Now, using that same data and know-how, Canon has developed an exclusive technology called iSAPS (Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space) that can predict certain camera settings such as focusing distance, exposure and optimum white balance based on zoom focal length, overall light level and tonal distribution data. Canon refers to this collective data as "Photographic Space." By incorporating iSAPS technology into its PowerShot line, the cameras can analyze a scene just before the image is made and in doing so, increase the speed and precision of the camera's autofocus, auto exposure and auto white balance.
MMC, SD and SDHC-Compatible Digital ELPH
The Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS uses the incredibly tiny SD memory cards. Get expanded capacity and high-speed writing from a memory card the size of a postage stamp. It is also compatible with the new higher-capacity SDHC cards. As an added convenience, the SD1100 IS Digital ELPH is compatible with MMC, MMC+ and HC MMC+ memory cards.
Five Movie Modes Including 30 fps VGA, Time Lapse and Fast Frame Rate
The PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH is appointed with a full-range of movie features including a built-in microphone and speaker. Among the options is high-resolution VGA (640 x 480) 30 fps VGA mode. Time Lapse is a feature that mimics the effect of time lapse photography. Clips are recorded at one or two fps, then played back at 15 fps for a fascinating effect.

The camera also offers Fast Frame Rate Movie Recording of 60 frames per second for up to 4GB or approximately 60 minutes per clip (at a resolution of up to 320 x 240 pixels), ideal for analyzing a golf swing or a tennis stroke using one of the supplied slow-motion playback settings. The compact movie mode -- designed with e-mail attachments in mind -- captures a maximum of three minutes of recording at 15 fps and a resolution of 160 x 120 pixels.

ISO Flexibility
Adjusting the camera's sensitivity levels to your lighting conditions is easy. That's because Canon has related these levels to the ISO film speeds you already know from traditional cameras. Simply select the sensitivity that corresponds to ISO 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 or choose AUTO and let the camera decide for you.
White Balance Control
A choice of preset White Balance settings gives you natural-looking images under almost any lighting condition. There's Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent and Fluorescent H. Select the one that fits your environment. You can also create and store a custom setting.
Evaluative Metering, Center-Weighted Average Metering and Spot Metering
Three light-metering modes are available for precise exposure. Canon's sophisticated Evaluative metering is the ideal metering choice for most situations. There's also Center-weighted metering, which is perfect for shooters who prefer to dial in their own exposure compensation. Finally, for the utmost precision, there's Spot metering -- which can measure a tiny area either at the center of the image, or can be linked to the AF point if it's off-center.
Built-in Flash
Shooting with flash never slows down the action. You can opt to allow the flash to fire automatically whenever the camera detects a low ambient light situation. The camera's built-in flash includes Red-Eye Reduction.
Intelligent Orientation Sensor
Canon's Intelligent Orientation Sensor determines whether a scene is being shot as a vertical or horizontal image and automatically adjusts it for quick and easy review on the camera's bright, sharp and easy-to-read, 230,000-pixel 2.5 inch Pure Color LCD II screen.
