The Olympus FL-36 is a powerful, yet light and compact external flash designed to perform seamlessly as part of the most advanced digital SLR system ever created. Body, lens and flash have been all developed from the ground up for digital photography -- and operate in unison to consistently deliver even illumination.

Designed specifically for use with digital cameras, the FL-36 rounds out the comprehensive lineup of "designed for digital" accessories for the E-System Digital SLR cameras and other prosumer models from Olympus. The FL-36 flash offers the robust and full-featured functionality of the larger FL-50 combined with cost effectiveness. The FL-36 is compact, lightweight and extremely portable, and is approximately 25% shorter and 35% lighter than the larger FL-50 flash, a significant space and weight savings.

Power

The FL-36 offers GN 36 at a focal length of 42mm (equivalent to 85mm on a 35mm camera; ISO 100), and GN 20 at a focal length of 12mm (equivalent to 24mm on a 35mm camera; ISO 100).

Built-in Wide-Angle Diffuser

The FL-36 features a built-in wide angle diffuser panel for even illumination with wide angle lenses like the Zuiko Digital 14mm-45mm zoom, as well as accurate contrast and rich color in a range of flash conditions.

Precise Control

The FL-36 Electronic Flash is specifically designed for digital with an accurate 1/8 step illumination control to provide the precision required by digital cameras, while minimizing illumination reduction. The FL-36 brings impressive control to the user. Its features include ultra-precision mounting technology that allows for direct communication with the Olympus C and E-System cameras.

Flexibility and Functionality

The FL-36 features a lockable bounce and swivel mechanism for a range of bounce photography options and a compact zoom head that accommodates lenses from wideangle to telephoto. The optional TTL Flash cable (CB-FL05) allows you greater flexibility when you need to remove the flash from the camera. And the FP modes allow you to sync the flash at shutter speeds up to 1/4000 of a second for daylight fill flash.

New Super Energy Saving Circuitry

The FL-36 also features a newly designed energy circuit that improves recharge rates and enables the flash to operate on just two AA batteries or one CR-3 Volt lithium.

Lockable Bounce and Swivel Head

The FL-36 is a versatile dedicated flash, offering five flash modes and 13 bounce angles. The inclusion of a lockable bounce and swivel mechanism offers a variety of bounce photography options including left-right, as well as top-bottom in addition to a compact zoom head to accommodate lenses from wide angle to telephoto.

Super FP Flash Mode

In addition to supporting the camera's normal synchronization speed of 1/180s, the FL-36 flash unit features the special Olympus Super FP Flash Mode for wider creative photographic possibilities. The Super FP Flash Mode activates the flash from the instant the shutter opens until it closes again, allowing the flash to be used even at the highest shutter speeds. The Olympus E-1 permits flash synchronization at all shutter speeds right down to 1/4000s.

Automatic Flash Coverage Adjustment

The flash reflector adjusts automatically in several steps during lens zooming to match the flash coverage to the lens angle of view.

Adjustable Flash Intensity

With the Olympus digital SLR, you can adjust the flash intensity in 1/3 EV steps, and it also offers features such as red-eye reduction, slow synchronization and second curtain synchronization.
