Olympus photos are known worldwide for sharp, vibrant image quality. This is achieved through a number of key technologies, such as Olympus' exlusive high-refractive-index aspherical lens elements, designed specifically for digital cameras. The Stylus 1200 features a precision-crafted Olympus lens with 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 35mm - 105mm, f2.8 - f4.7 in 35mm photography) that brings the action three times closer, and then tucks away into a pocket-sized compact body. The 15x combined total zoom (3x optical and 5x digital) brings the action closer, and a Super Macro Mode captures details as nuanced as the iridescent petals of a flower, from as close as 3.9 inches.

Digital Image Stabilization Mode and Digital Image Stabilization Edit

The Stylus 1200 includes a Digital Image Stabilization Mode, which boosts ISO sensitivity and shutter speed for capturing crisp, clear pictures -- free from the blur sometimes caused by camera shake or moving subjects -- in virtually any shooting situation. For unanticipated blurry images, Digital Image Stabilization Edit presents an easy solution for retouching a blurry image right in the camera after the image has already been captured. An electro-gyro sensor embedded in the camera tracks the vertical and horizontal movement of the camera, and then uses this information to revert the image back to its original position to sharpen and reduce blurs in the image.

The large, bright widescreen LCD with 230,000 high-resolution pixels makes it easy to see images clearly both when shooting and sharing photos with friends without having to download to a computer. You can easily compose, view and share your images indoors and outdoors, even in direct sunlight. The HyperCrystal LCD features high contrast and anti-glare technology for clear visibility -- even when composing subjects with the sun at your back. Shadow Adjustment Technology

Shooting outdoors in bright daylight can be tricky because of the extreme contrast between dark shadowed areas and bright sunlight areas -- while the human eye is capable of detecting the nuances between dark and light and all the details in between, image sensors traditionally have not been quite as sensitive. The Stylus 1200 addresses this challenge head-on with Shadow Adjustment Technology, which compensates for extreme contrast where the shadow areas are underexposed and lack visible detail. With this technology, users can preview and capture images that have the same contrast as seen with the naked eye. Combined with Face Detection Auto Focus and Auto Exposure, the Stylus 1200 captures smiles in shadows without getting a dark image in difficult lighting such as in backlight situations. The technology can also be turned off for any shooting situation where shadows are a key element of a photograph's drama.
