True Slide Switch Control*

Perhaps the most innovative aspect of the DS-4000 is its "true slide switch" located below the microphone. It's contoured to the thumb for smooth control of record, stop, play and review functions all with the same switch.

Two* Programmable Buttons

Programmable buttons that speed up reaction time increase the DS-4000's flexibility and reliability. Instead of having more buttons than necessary, the DS-4000 allows users to program the functions they use the most onto either the A or B buttons. The functions include: Index Mark, Record Mode, Microphone Sensitivity, Voice Activation, Display, and more.

Seven File Folders

The DS-4000 recorder can categorically classify and store recording in any of the 7 different folders that can be programmed on the recorder. Each folder can store up to 199 messages per folder.

Easy Editing

The DS-4000 allows for easy editing of existing recordings by appending, overwriting, inserting, and erasing or partial-erase of recording.

xD-Picture Card Removable Memory

Olympus and Fujifilm jointly developed the xD-Picture Card, a new type of memory media with an ultra-compact design about the size of a postage stamp, storage capacity of up to 8 gigabytes and prices that are comparable to current SmartMedia™ cards. The name of the new xD-Picture Card was inspired by the words "eXtreme digital" to signify the excellence of this new memory media for recording, storing, and transporting audio-visual information.

Because the DS-4000 uses the xD-Picture Card that's used in most Olympus digital camera models, both image and audio files may be saved on the same card that's shared by both devices. While a 32MB xD-Picture Card can be purchased on its own, if purchased with the DS-4000 this card can be shared with an Olympus digital camera to offer even more value. With a CompactFlash adapter the xD-Picture Card can be used with any CompactFlash compatible device for even more possibilities. A USB Reader/Writer provides easy computer connectivity, and a PCMCIA PC Card adapter for laptops and other devices ensures the easy downloading of data.

Although similar in some ways to all flash media, xD-Picture Cards are designed for increased durability and reliability despite their size. The small size of the card allows the design of even smaller, more stylish and powerful digital devices.

This model is as equally high-powered as it is versatile. Record more than 11 hours of superb quality DSS audio with the included 32MB xD-Picture Card™ and up to 179 hours, 30 minutes with a 512MB card.

Convenient USB Docking/Recharging Station Included

Back at the PC or Mac, when the DS-4000 is placed upright in, or lying flat on, the USB docking station, it enables quick downloading or uploading of voice files to and from the computer. When the DS-4000 is placed upright in the docking station, it conveniently charges the recorder's rechargeable battery if the PC is on or AC adapter is connected.

Runs On Included Rechargeable Battery or Standard AAA Batteries

On long days outside of the office that outlast the battery, professionals can quickly pop in cost-effective regular AAA batteries and keep on recording.

Direct Recording and Direct Transfer to a Personal Computer

The DS-4000 is capable of recording direct to a personal computer without taking up any of the recorder's internal memory, as long as the USB cable is attached. For frequent travelers who want to save space in their carry-on luggage there is no need to take the docking station on the road, as the DS-4000 comes equipped with a USB cable that allows for the direct transfer of voice files to and from the device to the PC.

Large Backlit LCD

The DS-4000 features a large, backlit, easy-to-read LCD screen that reveals file information, recording time and events on the front of the recorder and has a speaker for audio playback on the back.

Records in DSS (Digital Speech Standard) Format

The DS-4000 uses the quality DSS sound recording format, developed primarily to meet dictation and transcription needs, and once files are stored on the device it can automatically compress or extend the number of files within the seven folders, up to 199 per folder.

Selectable Recording Modes and Recording Sensitivity

Choose between two combinations of recording modes, SP or LP, and recording sensitivity, Dictate or Conference, to suit your recording needs.
