For a more effective countermeasure against blur, Active Mode image stabilization is now available with DMC-FZ47 as an option in video recording. In addition to the conventional POWER O.I.S., the Active Mode effectively suppresses blur in video recording especially at wide angle while walking. The Intelligent Scene Selector automatically switches between Normal, Portrait, Macro, Scenery, and Low Light modes according to the situation to optimize visual quality. Intelligent D-range Control makes images look more natural by preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights to optimize the exposure for each part of an image. It also ensures a beautiful reproduction of gradation and details.
- POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer)
- Especially important for a high zoom camera, Panasonic's advanced POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) enhances the camera's telephoto zoom capabilities, helping to deliver sharp, vivid images even when taking handheld telephoto shots or shooting in low light. This feature uses motion sensors, which detects even slight hand movement and integrally links the lens control to the motion of the camera to reduce jitter. Unlike digital image stabilization systems, this optical system provides precise compensation with no degradation in image quality. POWER O.I.S. is automatically turned on in the IA Mode and can be turned on or off in the P/A/S/M Mode or some Scene Modes.
POWER O.I.S. nearly doubles the hand-shake correction power of conventional MEGA O.I.S. Panasonic has worked on the low-frequency vibration hand-shake component, which is physically generated when pressing the shutter button or when shooting at night with a slow shutter speed. You get bright photos without blurring even from handheld shooting at slow shutter speeds. POWER O.I.S. is extremely effective for high-power zoom shots, and clearly captures subjects in the ultra-telephoto range, which used to require a tripod.
- 3-inch High-Resolution LCD and Electronic Viewfinder

- 1/2.33" 12.1 Megapixel Hi-Speed CCD Sensor With Primary Color Filter
- The 12.1-megapixel CCD with 2-channel signal output structure boasts higher signal transfer speed for the operations that require high performance and speed such as 1,920 x 1,080 full HD video recording and high speed continuous shooting. The picture quality is also improved thanks to the higher sensitivity which is made possible by highly efficient light condensation adoption larger on-chip micro lenses.
- Venus Engine FHD LSI
- TThe Venus Engine FHD image processor features exceptionally advanced signal processing capabilities. By separating chromatic noise from luminance noise and applying the optimal noise reduction to each, you can capture clear and beautiful images even when shooting at high ISO sensitivity levels. The Venus Engine FHD also provides precisely selective noise reduction to the chromatic noise without affecting the border of colors which is judged from the brightness level of a pixel.
Linking smoothly with the Hi-Speed CCD sensor, the Venus Engine FHD processes a large amount of signals at high speed, making it possible to record 1,920 x 1,080 full-HD video recording and high resolution consecutive shots at 3.7 fps in 12.1-megapixel full resolution and max. 10 fps at 3-megapixel recording. At the same time, the multi-task image-processing engine, the Venus Engine FHD realizes a super-fast response time. The Sonic Speed AF (Auto Focus) gains approximately 35% faster speed at tele end compared with the DMC-FZ40 by reviewing the algorithm and software processing. The speed in AF Tracking also becomes faster thanks to the improved tracking performance which doubles its sampling frequency.
- Intelligent Resolution Technology
- The advanced image processing technology Intelligent Resolution is incorporated in the Venus Engine for the DMC-FZ47. With the Intelligent Resolution technology, 3 areas -- outlines, detailed texture areas and soft gradation areas -- are automatically detected and optimum signal processes are performed to each area. Apart from the uniform enhancement of sharpness, the innovative technology Intelligent Resolution precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel in the most effective way for it. As a result, images are naturally clear and crisp in both photo and movie recording. The Intelligent Resolution function turns ON in the IA Mode or in some Scene Modes. In other cases, you can activate Intelligent Resolution from the menu.

- 32x Intelligent Zoom
- Intelligent Resolution technology enables the Intelligent Zoom, which virtually extends the optical zoom ratio to an approximate 1.3x equivalent, maintaining the picture quality even combining the digital zoom. This means the 24x optical can be virtually extended to 32x. The Intelligent Zoom function turns ON in the iA Mode or in some Scene Modes. It can also be activated from the menu.
- Intelligent Auto Mode Helps Prevent Mis-Shots
- Panasonic's iA (Intelligent Auto) mode is a combination of functions that makes it easy for anyone to take beautiful photos. In the iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, the camera does all the work, leaving you free to compose shots and capture moments. Just press, aim and shoot. Detection and correction functions work appropriately just by entering the iA Mode for you to take beautiful photos and movies with maximum ease. In addition, Intelligent Resolution technology is always activated in the iA Mode, which results in the clearer and higher image quality in every photo and movie with extended zoom range equivalent to 32x optical zoom by the Intelligent Zoom.
- Motion Deblur Mode
- Motion Deblur Mode prevents blurring with even greater power (the picture size may be reduced). Motion Deblur Mode integrates the Intelligent ISO Control, which automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed according to the subject's movement, and the advanced contrast control system of Intelligent Exposure, which also optimizes the exposure to prevent over/under-exposed parts in the image. The camera judges the appropriate shutter speed to suppress motion blur according to the subject's movement. The shutter speed rises as high as possible activating the high sensitivity recording by pixel mixed readout method. The camera determines the optimal settings, so anyone can easily capture crisp, clear photos -- without blurring.
- Face Recognition
- The FZ47 features Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces. When a familiar face is recorded several times, the camera will prompt you to register the face. Once completed, if the familiar face appears into your frame again, the camera will display the name you specified for the person and prioritize focus and exposure so that the registered face is bright and in sharp focus. Up to six people's faces can be registered, and up to three can be simultaneously recognized to show their names once registered. Three face images can be registered for each person, to dramatically raise the detection accuracy. And when the angle of view is changed horizontally, the name display also rotates for easier reading.
- AF Tracking Function
- With the AF Tracking function, the user can "lock" the focus onto a moving subject. The camera then automatically tracks the subject as it moves, keeping it in focus without the user having to hold the shutter button halfway down. This makes it easier to capture the perfect moment clearly and in sharp focus when shooting images of a child, pet, sports or any scene with moving subjects and spur-of-the-moment action.
- Face Detection AF and AE
- The Face Detection function can find up to 15 faces in the frame and adjusts the focus and exposure to capture them clearly and in sharp focus. Face detection accuracy has been increased in the FZ47 to now provide continuous adjustment of the focus and exposure even if the face is turned sideways to the camera. Combined with AF Tracking, Face Detection helps users capture special moments, including the fleeting expressions on the faces of active children. Plus, with the FZ47, the red-eye effect can be digitally corrected automatically when it occurs due to the use the flash.
- Intelligent ISO Control
- Thanks to Intelligent ISO Control (IIC), the camera can determine whether or not the subject is moving. If it is moving, Intelligent ISO Control changes the ISO sensitivity and shutter speed accordingly. You get clear, beautiful shots with no motion blur even when photographing kids who won't stay still. If the subject is not moving, the ISO sensitivity is lowered to capture beautiful, natural-looking images.
- Intelligent Scene Selector
- When the camera's in iA mode, the Intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects either Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait or Night Scenery mode accordingly. It makes several other advanced image settings too, so you're assured of getting beautiful results every time you shoot, no matter what the scene or subject. With the Intelligent Scene Selector doing all the complicated work for you, you'll find photography easier than ever to enjoy.
- Intelligent Exposure
- With this feature, photos will no longer be under- or over-exposed. Instead, the FZ47 instantly analyzes the framed image and adjusts the brightness in areas that are too dark because of dim lighting, backlighting or the use of the flash. The camera will automatically adjust the brightness accordingly. Intelligent Exposure optimizes the exposure for each part of an image, preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights and helping ensure that gradation and details are reproduced beautifully. It now features an automatic backlight compensation function that activates whenever the camera detects the subject is in backlight.
- Digital Red-eye Correction
- This feature helps to eliminate the red-eye problem that sometimes results when taking flash shots at the night. Incorporated into the built-in flash, the camera emits a small preliminary flash before the main flash, detects red-eye and will digitally correct it.
