Digital Camcorders Feature Explanations:

1 - Mini DV Format
A revolutionary digital video format capable of more than 500 lines of horizontal resolution -- far superior to the 240 lines offered by 8mm camcorders, and nearly double the resolution offered by a live television broadcast. Mini DV offers three times the color sharpness of 8mm camcorders to create brilliant video color with minimal color noise interference for a more stable picture. It can also record CD-quality audio - all on a miniature cassette that is 1/12th of the size of a standard VHS tape. Plus, when you make a digital copy of your Mini DV tapes, it is an exact clone of the original.
2 - 3 CCD Imaging System
The Panasonic PV-GS320 is equipped with a 3 CCD camera system that separates the reds, greens and blues that compose an image. The result is exceptional detail and true-to-life color that will make your precious memories come alive with stunning realism. It's the same technology used in Panasonic professional broadcast equipment, resulting in 540 lines of breathtaking resolution.
3 - Quad-Density Pixel Distribution Technology
The PV-GS320 camcorder includes this highly advanced technology that was originally developed for broadcast-quality cameras to help maximize picture quality. It is accomplished by the use of both vertical and horizontal pixel shifting to yield improved clarity and performance.
4 - Web Camera
Now the same camcorder that saves your memories can help you make some memories too! That's because select Panasonic Digital Palmcorder® MultiCam™ Camcorders are equipped with a built-in Web Camera. And that gives you the ability to send impactful, live video to family and friends over the Internet*. Or, if your loved ones are similarly equipped, you can even videoconference with them. Imagine how great it would be to actually see the special people in your life, just by connecting to the Web. It's that easy with a Panasonic Palmcorder® MultiCam™ Camcorder.

Plus, the Web Camera helps give you more than video phone capability. You'll also be able to set up your MultiCam™ Camcorder as a simple home monitoring device. So, whenever you're away from home, you can easily access the camcorder from the Web. It's perfect for those times when you're constantly on the go, but would still like the peace of mind to check in on the house.

Or, if you just can't avoid being away on an important event, it's a great way to keep in touch. Either way, you'll appreciate all the things you can do with a Panasonic Palmcorder® MultiCam™ Camcorder. It's a camcorder and so much more!

* Receiver and sender: Microsoft® Windows® Messenger or Windows® NetMeeting™ is required. Also requires Windows® XP, Windows® Me, Windows® 98SE or Windows® 2000 Professional preinstalled PC with USB port. Both computers must be equipped to make a direct dial-up connection.

5 - i.Link IEEE 1394 DV Interface
Using the industry standard i.LINK™ (IEEE 1394 PC interface, also known as FireWire™), the DV format offers professional editing and dubbing capabilities in a user-friendly format. You can create duplicate copies of videos without any deterioration in video quality, or record professional-looking videos at home without the need for expensive professional software and equipment.

The i.LINK™ (IEEE 1394 PC interface) provides a high speed, two-way link that allows the user to easily transfer video and still images between similarly equipped camcorders, or between a camcorder and a computer without any deterioration in either sound or video quality.

* IEEE 1394 cable, host adapter card and software required to transfer video images or still images to a PC.

6 - DV Studio USB Connection
This convenient feature allows you to link the camcorder to your computer via the USB port. Then, you can easily transfer still images captured on Mini DV tape to your computer for use in e-mail or printed documents.

The PV-GS320 supports USB 2.0 High Speed enabling real time video transfers.

7 - Built-in SD / SDHC Memory Card Drive
SD memory cards are incredibly versatile, holding vast amounts of information and are about the size of a postage stamp. That's why they're revolutionizing the way people enjoy audio, video and information content. In fact, SD memory cards are used in a wide range of products, including A/V equipment, PCs, cellular phones, PDAs and other communication devices. And you'll be able to enjoy this amazing technology as most Panasonic Digital Palmcorders boast SD card slots, opening up a wealth of networking possibilities.

Thanks to the SD card slot on select models, you can actually use your camcorder as an external SD storage drive. PC connection cable and driver software are included with the PV-GS85, PV-GS300 and PV-GS500. Using the included USB cable, transfer photos, data motion files or even motion images back and forth between the camcorder and your PC. Requires optional SD memory card.

8 - PhotoShot Digital Camera Function
Sometimes a still image is the best way to capture a magical memory. Whether it's the fleeting glimpse of a loved one's smile or a spectacular vacation view, a still image can speak volumes. That's why all Panasonic Digital Palmcorder MultiCam Camcorders are equipped with a Photoshot built-in digital still camera. So, whether you're saving vintage video or sharing spectacular stills over the Web, you'll be ready with a Panasonic MultiCam Camcorder.
9 - Hi-Definition Optical Zoom
Panasonic Mini DV camcorders come with a lens capable of a 10:1 or 32:1 optical zoom depending on model. This powerful feature acts like a telescope to produce close-up shots with extraordinary clarity, so you won't miss a single detail. It also offers variable zoom speeds, so you can zoom in for close-ups, or zoom out for wide angle shots, using any of seven different zoom speeds.
10 - Digital Zoom
Through the use of digital technology, the zoom ratio on select Digital Palmcorders can be increased to 700:1*, 800:1* or 1000:1*, producing an incredibly close shot.

* As magnification increases, resolution significantly decreases.

11 - MagicPix™ Images
This feature is a great way to record still images even in low-light settings. Now you can capture still images in full color onto the MiniDV tape and save priceless memories like a sleeping baby or a moonlit vacation night.
12 - PictBridge Compatible
The PictBridge standard lets you print directly on a compatible digital printer. Print size, layout, date and other settings can be made with the camera.
13 - Tele Macro Function
Using the zoom at full magnification, you can shoot macro close-ups while maintaining a distance of about 24" from your subject. This makes it much easier to caputre extreme close-ups without your body or the camcorder casting a shadow on the subject, and while keeping the background in soft focus.
14 - Pure Color Engine
The Pure Color Engine converts the CCD output signal from a complementary color signal into an RGB signal at an early stage and extracts the low-frequency luminance component from the RGB signal. This innovative engine also achieves truly superb color reproduction for high-zoomed pictures.

The Advanced Pure Color Engine, found on the PV-GS320, is a special image processing circuit for 3CCD camera systems. It processes the R, G and B signals from the three CCDs individually, so it gives both motion and still pictures exceptional quality.

15 - PCM Audio
All these Panasonic Mini DV camcorders use Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) technology to bring you CD-quality audio for recordings with pristine sound and clarity. Choose from 12-bit or 16-bit recording modes to create the ultimate in sound.
  • 16-bit audio includes one set of stereo audio tracks to produce CD-quality sound. (Note: When you insert audio using the 16-bit mode, the original audio will be erased.)
  • 12-bit audio -- utilizes two sets of audio tracks so you can easily add background music or commentary into your videos while maintaining the existing soundtrack.
16 - Optical Image Stabilization
Imagine taking video shots on a moving boat and then viewing them on a large-screen TV. They're likely to appear blurry from the boat's movement and unsteady hands. Panasonic solves this problem with their O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer). O.I.S. is an optical system, so image quality is in no way degraded. If you plan to view the videos you record on a big-screen TV, be sure to get a camera with an O.I.S. system. Panasonic's O.I.S. minimizes hand-shake. O.I.S. is extremely effective in situations where hand-shake is most often a problem, such as with zoom shots. The system is optical, so there is no quality loss. Images look clear and beautiful on a TV screen.
17 - Leica Dicomar Lens
Leica AG of Germany is the manufacturer of fine cameras and lenses favored by photographers everywhere. The Leica Dicomar lens featured on the PV-DC320 Palmcorder camcorder was developed specifically for digital video cameras. Drawing on Leica's renowned optical technology, this advanced lens captures clear, crisp, finely nuanced images with outstanding detail and contrast. Thanks to a multi-coating applied during the manufacturing process, the lens also minimizes flare and ghosts.
18 - Megapixel Still Picture Recording
This feature combines three CCDs, each with 800k pixels, with Panasonic Quad-Density Pixel Distribution Technology to deliver true, megapixel still images when recording to SD memory card.
19 - High-Picture-Quality 16:9 Wide Mode
These models offer the High-Picture-Quality Wide Mode, which produces images that make for beautiful, dramatic viewing on a wide-screen TV. The image is processed on 16:9 area of the CCD. Because the image decoded has the same proportions as your wide-screen TV, there is virtually no picture quality degradation. You get beautiful images and all the excitement and dynamism on either a wide 16:9 screen TV or a conventional 4:3 TV. These models also feature a wide 2.7-inch LCD, making it easier to frame shots when you're shooting in 16:9 mode. You can enjoy shooting wide, and viewing wide.
